These weekend courses offer an intensive theoretical and practical
introduction to sea kayaking. Topics covered include the necessary equipment,
the basic paddling strokes, rescue techniques, navigation and weather
and water conditions. Paddle Canada Flatwater Kayaking and Sea Kayaking
I, and BCU star tests will be offered. No previous experience required.

This intensive, 5 day, course reinforces and extends the information and skills taught in CA Level 2. An overnight trip and a night paddle will be part of the course. Group leadership and risk assessment will be an important component. Various awards available to qualified candidates: BCU Star Tests, Paddle Canada skill certification (Level II & III), and AECSKO (Association of Eastern Canadian Sea Kayaking Outfitters) guide training. Prerequisite: a CA Level 2 course, or its equivalent in experience. Details upon request.

During this 5 day course Andy Stamp (BCU Level 5 Coach), Scott Cunningham (Paddle Canada Senior IT), and Chris Lockyer (Paddle Canada Senior IT) will provide the theory and skills for sea kayaking in advanced conditions. This includes tidal currents, exposure to no landing zones and surf beaches and paddling in swells and breaking waves. The awards (Paddle Canada SK IV, BCU 5* Training) contain a leadership component. Prerequisites: CA Level 3 course or equivalent.

In association with Active Life Adventure & Training, Coastal Adventures is offering the Canadian Red Cross Society 3 day intensive course in Wilderness & Remote First Aid. This program will prepare you for emergency situations that involve: prolonged patient care, severe environments, and improvised equipment. Topics covered include patient assessment, equipment improvisation, trauma and medical conditions treatment, back country and environmental medicine. Simulations of emergency situations in a coastal and fresh water environment will be an important component. Completion of the course will give you a Wilderness and Remote First Aid certification and a Standard First Aid certification recognized in the workplace in N.S. WRFA exceeds the Standard F.A. requirement in the workplace. This is an ideal first aid training for those who lead groups into the near-wilderness environment of the Maritimes.
